
KCA University has affirmed its commitment to reinforcing research integrity with the launch of the KCA University Scientific and Ethics Review Committee (KCAUSERC). This launch marks an advancement in the university’s milestones toward fostering credible, impactful and responsible research. The event, which was graced by Prof. Walter Oyawa, Director General & CEO of the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), brought together leading scholars, industry experts and higher education stakeholders from Kenya and beyond
While giving his remarks, Prof. Oyawa emphasized the pivotal role of ethical research in shaping national development, “Ethics are at the core of all research activities because they ensure that research benefits society while respecting the rights and well-being of all stakeholders. With the establishment of KCAUSERC, KCA University is poised to make even greater strides in research excellence.”
As the regulatory body overseeing scientific research in Kenya, NACOSTI plays a key role in ensuring institutions adhere to national and international research ethics standards. Prof. Oyawa reaffirmed NACOSTI’s support for KCA University’s research agenda, underscoring the importance of compliance, transparency and accountability in scholarly inquiry
In his keynote speech, KCA University VC & CEO, Prof. Isaiah Wakindiki highlighted the transformational role of ethical oversight in modern research across fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, environmental science and social sciences. He also encouraged researchers to leverage KCAUSERC as a valuable resource for ethical research approvals.
