The ICT Department at KCA University (KCAU) is responsible for providing information and communication technology (ICT) services to the university community. The ICT Department plays a vital role in supporting the university’s mission and vision by providing a reliable and secure ICT infrastructure, developing and implementing ICT solutions, and providing ICT training and support to the university community.

Introduction

The Department of ICT is responsible for the Design and Implementation of the overall University ICT strategy and it discharge its mandate as described in the University Statutes. Its strategic goals is always aligned to those of the University. The Department is be headed by the Head of ICT (HOICT), Dr. Paul Abuonji (Ph.D) who reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Finance, Planning & Development (DVC, FPD), Prof. Damiannah M. Kieti Manono.

The Head of ICT is supported by respective managers in charge of Enterprise Applications; ICT Support Services, ICT Networks and Systems Administration, and Data Protection officer.

The Role of the ICT Department

  • Improve teaching and learning through use of Innovative Learning Technologies (ILTs
  • Provide infrastructural support for Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
  • Centrally manage the University ERP and ensure continuity
  • Provide Helpdesks and end-user support to enable students and staff use ICT effectively
  • Extend access to learning through e-Learning support for distance learning
  • Support researchers by providing access to online resources and training on relevant courses
  • Integrate administrative and ERP systems to facilitate planning and decision making
  • Provide office productivity tools and facilities
  • Maintain efficient and effective ICT services at prescribed levels and standards
  • Ensure security of systems as per the University policy
  • Protect systems against fraud and damage
  • Ensure clear lines of authority and delegated responsibility in shared systems
  • Sustain ICT training and capacity building programmes to empower end-users
  • Benchmark bandwidth service performance levels with best practices internationally
  • Ensure e-waste disposal in accordance with socially acceptable environmental guidelines
