KCA University Library (KCAU Library) is an Academic library that is owned, managed and maintained by KCA University to support its mission and vision. It is composed of the main campus library and all campus libraries of the KCA University. KCA University is a private, non-profit institution of higher learning located in Nairobi, Kenya. It was founded in 1989 as Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) as a training institution for accountants. KCA University Library story is intertwined with that of its mother organization KCA University.
The Library started as a small resource center to support the then college of accounts in Nairobi Westland Arcade, Westlands. The College later relocated to Paramount Plaza in Ngara before settling in Ruaraka area. In 2006, before KCA was granted a Letter of Interim Authority (LIA) by the Commission for Higher Education (CHE) to offer degree programs, the then resource center was radically transformed to serve the newly created community of University students and staff. Later in 2007 KCA University was established with a Letter of interim authority, and later Chartered as a full-fledged University in 2013.
The new status called for establishment of new facilities and equipment. Among these facilities was building and equipping of a state-of-the-art research library which was officially opened on June 4th 2009 by the then Danish Royal Ambassador to Kenya, Mr BO Jensen. The building has a unique design inspired by the pyramids of Egypt Themed; “ just as pyramids are a symbol of wisdom and treasure, so is the KCAU Library. This Library was named after the then Chairman of the University Council, hence the name -Martin Oduor-Otieno Library.
Since then, KCAU Library has continued to grow and expand in tandem with the growth of the University programs and the community. It has branch libraries in all places/towns where the University has established campuses. Its functions and services are fully automated and has a world class electronic resource which is accessible 24/7 from any location in the world.
KCAU Library has also established partnerships and Collaboration with Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) and runs on established standards and guidelines of the Commission for University Education (CUE). This Library has also been recognized for its excellence in its resources and services by the Kenya Library Association in its Library of the year awards popularly known as Maktaba Awards. It was honored in the Academic libraries category as First runners up in 2015 and Second runners up in 2016.
KCAU Library is a leading academic Library in Kenya.
