FAQ.1. What is distance Learning?

“Any learning that takes place either outside or inside the classroom, where the teacher and the student are separated by TIME and SPACE.

The intervention may be via TECHNOLOGY or traditional PRINTED copes or a BLENDED mode.”

FAQ.2. Is distance learning for me?

If your answer to most of the following questions is a yes, then you are a suitable candidate for distance learning. Furthermore, our team of enrolment advisors and counselors will help you work on some of your weaknesses such as time management and computer skills.
1. I am good at setting goals and deadlines for myself.
2. I have a really good reason for taking an online course.
3. I finish the projects I start.
4. I do not quit just because things get difficult.
5. I can keep myself on track and on time.
6. I learn fairly easily.
7. I can learn from things I hear, like lectures, audio recordings, or podcasts.
8. I have to read something to learn it best.
9. I have developed good ways to solve problems I run into.
10. I learn best when I figure things out for myself.
11. I like to learn in a group, but I can learn on my own as well.
12. . I am willing to send e-mail to or have discussions with people I might never see.
13. I usually study in a place where I can read and work on assignments without distractions.
14. I can ignore distractions around me when I study.
15. I am willing to spend 10-20 hours each week on an online course.
16. I keep a record of what my assignments are and when they are due.
17. I plan my work in advance so that I can turn in my assignments on time.

FAQ.3. Requirements for Distance Learning?

1. Time
2. Space for private reading
3. A computer (or smart phone) with internet accessibility, or a facility to allow you access the internet at least one day per week.
4. Reliable internet connection
5. Ability to attend examinations and briefings face-to-face.

FAQ.4. How will do I go about my Distance Learning Program at KCA University?

a) Student enrolls and pays fees
b) Student meets DL coordinator to create account and be introduced to the online mode learning
c) Student reads material and logs in at least once a week for each module to try out quizzes, chat with classmates, contribute to group discussions and ask any questions. In case the student is not able to go online, they can use their phones to contact the lecturer
d) Student sits for cats and assignments online
e) Student meets lecturers face-to-face during the examinations week for pre-exam briefing and to have any outstanding questions addressed
f) Students sit for examinations in designated centers. Currently, these include Ruaraka campus, Nairobi CBD, Amagoro, Kisumu and Selected Kenyan Embassies and Missions. Additional learning, ICT and examination centers are set up depending on quorum.
g) Results are released online as students register online for the next trimester’s units.
